Kurt Clothier

Embedded Systems Engineer

As a multifaceted Embedded Systems Engineer, Kurt E. Clothier is an invaluable asset to Figure Engineering, working at the crossroads of electronics hardware and software. Mr. Clothier is responsible for a wide range of technological development tasks including systems design and integration, electronic circuit analysis and fabrication, low-level firmware, computer scripting, software applications, and graphical user interfaces necessary for testing, verification, and operation of custom electro-mechanical systems. He has a dedication to efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and creating products that look good and work as expected.

Kurt has over a decade of experience designing hardware and software for consumer, industrial, and aerospace industries as well as providing consultation, design, and fabrication services to private clients for unique projects. He obtained a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a minor in Mathematics and specializations in Robotics and Control Systems. He later received his M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Springfield. While at university, Kurt published “A Geometric Approach for Robotic Arm Kinematics with Hardware Design, Electrical Design and Implementation.” He also designed and built Flora, a semi-autonomous humanoid robot, to serve as the flower girl at his wedding.

When not squashing digital bugs or controlling the flow of electrons, Kurt can be found in a tent deep in the woods, on a remote mountain trail, or kayaking a serene lake.
