As the Embedded Systems Engineer, Kurt Clothier is an invaluable asset to Figure Engineering. Mr. Clothier is responsible for developing low-level firmware, scripts, software applications, and graphical user interfaces necessary for testing, verification, and operation of electro-mechanical systems. In addition, Kurt constructs PLC systems and verifies hardware designs.
Previously, he worked in a variety of roles spanning electronics hardware and software for companies such as Panasonic Avionics and PubNub. He has also provided consultation, design, and fabrication services to private clients for unique projects.
Mr. Clothier obtained a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a minor in Mathematics and specializations in Robotics and Control Systems. He later received his M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Springfield. While at university, Kurt published “A Geometric Approach for Robotic Arm Kinematics with Hardware Design, Electrical Design and Implementation.” He also designed and built Flora, a semi-autonomous humanoid robot, to serve as the flower girl at his wedding.
When not squashing digital bugs or controlling the flow of electrons, Kurt can be found in a tent deep in the woods, on a remote mountain trail, or kayaking a serene lake.
